| Conan O'Brien , or as he calls himself the pale faced melon head, was born on April 18th 1963, in Brookline,Massachusetts, the third of six children. He's and Irish Calothic with thick red hair (If anyone didn't know) . His Father Dr.Thomas O'Brien is the head of microbiology at Brigham, Hospital and a professor at Harvard Medical School. His Mother Ruth O'Brien worked for Ropes and Gray law firm until she retired in 1997. He has three brothers: Neal, antique car collector, Luke, a lawyer, and Justin, a business consultant, and two sisters: Kathryn, a teacher, and Jane, a scriptwriter. Conan attended Harvard University where he majored in American History. After graduation , he moved to Los Angeles and writing for Not Necessarily the news , a series on cable HBO. He also performed with an improv group called "The Groundlings". From 1988-91 he wrote for the show Saturday Night Live. He wrote such skits as, Mr. short term memory , the nude talk show and Irish drinking songs. He also performed in these too. The writing staff of the show won an Emmy for outstanding writing in 1989. He joined The Simpson's , as a writer, then supervising producer, for there 1992 to 1993 season. Conan says that the writing room looked like a collage dorm with couches that are all beat up and the springs are gone. Some writers have mashed big blobs of chewing gum into the ceiling and other have stuck things into it. One of the episodes he wrote was the monorail . When late night Host Johnny Carson announced he would retire as a late night talk show host in 1992 , It was somewhat surprising when Conan was introduced as the new host of Late Night in 1993. He had no previous experience as a host and barely had experience in front of the camera. Conan Had struggled threw the first years and at one point did get canceled. NBC didn't know what to put on instead so they put Conan back on. He's still going strong today as we watch the red headed cutie on NBC. |
