Atlanta's Tribute

They said at each race
Each track that they go
Somehow, some tribute
To one we all know.

The grass between
The track and the pits
Had squares painted
With threes, little bits.

On lap 3 yet again
As the two weeks before
The caution flew in the air,
Slowing the score.

It's like a sign
From well up above
To slow down a moment,
From the one who we loved.

Three races it has happened
Just like that
Quiet and patient
Us fans we all sat.

But this week a change
on quiet lap 3
7000 balloons
From the garage were set free.

1000 for each
Of the titles he's claimed
His memory
It shall always remain.

A fitting tribute it was
For the rookie today
His 3rd start in the same car
And he won the same way.

A photo finish again
A great race we saw
A tribute to Dale
Without hardly a flaw.
