On October 24, 2002 one of my very close friends died of Luekemia, or AML to be exact. He was only 15 and had been diagnosed for only 17 days. I am one of the many unlucky people to just now learn about this terrible cancer the hard way so i decided i would educate people about this since it could happen to anyone! If it happened to Chris Young it can happen to anyone!
AML: Acute Myelogenous Luekemia
What is AML: when the body makes way more white blood cells than needed and begins to kill the red blood cells. It is most commonly invovled with adults but under half of the cases of children with luekemia is AML. "In acute leukemia, immature, functionless cells accumulate in the marrow of the blood. The marrow often can no longer produce normal red and white blood cells and platelets."- from Medifocus.com. It lessens the amount of oxygen to the red blood cells and decreases the amount of platelets in the body. Platelets are the cells that help the blood clot. If untreated it moves to other parts of the body such as the lymph nodes, liver, central nervous system( the brain and spinal cord), and spleen. There are many tyoes of luekemia but the Acute ones means that the happen suddenly.

Is there a cure: there is not really a cure for it. The diagnosed person must go through stages of Chemotherapy and many blood transfusions to replace the platelets. Unfortunelty for Chris he didnt respond to both which isnt rare.

How does one get it
: Studies have shown that cleaning supplies, smoke, fertilzers, excessive radiation, cancer therapy, a few other things i have no idea what they are! visit this site.

Do people survive it
: there is no cure yet, but there is many different treatments. Since there is so many treatments go here.

Sources
: most of the information i got was from Medifocus.com and the oncologychannel
