Love

As we all know, the houshi has a hyperactive sex drive. That, or he has lots of sexual tension. Or both. Either way, this effects his love life majorly.

Will you bear my child?...a question he has asked every woman he meets, except for one, Sango. Well, Sango's special. But we'll get to that later. Thoughout the series, we see him snuggling up to a woman or being slapped by another. It's even in his blood. The only way Naraku had beaten Miroku's grandfather was because he shape-shifted into a beautiful preistess. I think it's kind of freaky that there's a "horny-behavorial" gene according to Rumiko Takahashi, but ah well.

But alas, the true reason why you clicked the "love" button. You want to hear about the love between Sango and Miroku. Well, I'll warn you now..spoilers!

Cuteness! There are some people on the net who don't think that Sango and Miroku would make a good couple, and their relationship isn't realistic at all. They have logical reasons why, saying that Miroku is just a playa homeboy and Sango deserves better, or Sango is too prude for happy-go-lucky Miroku.

I am not one of those people.

I believe these two are perfect for each other. As some romantics say, "Opposites attract". Darn tootin'! And you can tell they care for each other..Sango is an obvious because she blushes and gets really jealous (emphasize on the "really") whenever Miroku flirts with somebody other than her. Miroku, well, he's the tricky one. There have been many arguments on why he still flirts with other girls even though he loves Sango.

Well, here's my ten cents: Miroku flirts with other girls to push Sango away. He gropes her to push her away. He knows it pisses her off. He wants to make Sango not love him back in order to not hurt her. If Naraku does not die, then Miroku will die at an early age, and it hurts him to think of leaving Sango at that kind of state. You may say, "Well, he sure doesn't show it!" Miroku has gone though life hiding his true feelings. He's one of those people who just prefer to not let the whole world know his problems. He takes care of situations by himself. Pushing away Sango seems like the right thing to do.

He hasn't asked Sango to bear his child. Why? Maybe he knows she will say yes. Maybe he thinks that it will bring them one step closer in their relationship, which he does not want to risk. He knows that when he dies, he will leave the mother of his child all alone. He doesn't want to do that to Sango.

Proof of this is when he proposes to Sango. He says, "I never thought I would treasure and trust a girl so much. However... that is precisely why, I can't love you as a girl." The girls that Miroku flirt with, they're just girls. But Sango is something more than a girl, something more special. She is a woman in his eyes. He can't let himself love her, not yet, until Naraku is killed. That is why he asks her to marry him after the battle is done.

I think that it is admirable what Miroku is doing to protect Sango, but in the end it might hurt Sango more. I predict a future confrontation that will reveal this.
