Trust and Sex

One-night stands and casual sex is uncommon in India, unlike the West. Nevertheless, it is prevalent. In India, many people still have an underlying cultural need to trust the person they're having sex with. They would rather be emotionally involved first, than sexually - whether its a spouse or a casual partner. Trust issues are important for healthy and satisfying sex and a lasting relationship. As more and more Indians approach sex with an open mind, safe sex and trust are increasingly being talked about together. Freedom to say "No" Its important for both the partners to recognise that they have the freedom to say "no" whenever they want. And this is not gender specific - it applies to any man, as it applies to a woman. Saying no for a women, however, is a security issue; for men, this is a comfort issue. A man needs to be able to depend on her woman not to think less of him if he doesn't want it because he may be tired or plain not in the mood. Healthy Experimenting Both partners need to understand that the other might not be equally open to trying out new things. Hence, any experimentation must be carefully planned. While its fun and healthy to gently coax your partner into being innovative and daring, you should do so only if your partner is completely comfortable with the idea. At no point must any of you try to force your partner into doing something they do not want as it brings out the feeling of 'being used'. Sound advise Sexual health is not the same as arousal (which is more of an animal instinct), but it is important to build trust. Both of you must agree to take measures necessary to ensure safe sex. This includes seeing other people - if you are, your partner must know for both physical and emotional reasons. Unless you are in an open relationship or marriage, its not worth putting a partner your love at risk.
