2nd Lieutenant Crawford served with 24 Squadron flying Airco DH2 single seat pusher fighters. The squadron was commanded by Major Lanoe Hawker, VC.
On the 17 November 1916 William was out on patrol when he was shot down by a German fighter.
2nd Lieutenant William Charlton Crawford is commemorated at the Arras Flying Services Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
