Robert John Crawford served as a Sergeant in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.

Robert was a
Wireless Operator/Air Gunner with 101 Squadron flying Lancaster bombers.

On the 4 May 1944 Robert failed to return from a sortie over France.

Took off from Ludfrod on ABC duties. On the homeward flight the Lancaster crashed at Aubeterre (Aube), 14km NNE of Troyes.

Sergeant Robert John Crawford and some members of his crew initially buried at Aubeterre. Later their remains were taken to Champigneul and later still they were buried in the Dieppe Canadian War Cemetery, Hautot-Sur-Mer, collective grave numbers 3-6.
