During Operation Market Garden, which commenced on the 17 September 1944, Robert was part of the 2 Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery. This unit was landed in support of the 4th Parachute Brigade on the 18th September. Robert was lost in action on this day and it is possible he was lost in one of the gliders.
