Hugh was commisioned Pilot Officer on Probation on 17 January 1941 as per the London Gazette dated 28 February 1941.
On the 16 August 1941 Hugh was transferred to the Technical Branch, RAF as per the London Gazette dated 11 November 1941.
Hugh was promoted from Pilot Officer on probation to Flying Officer on probation effective from 17 January 1942 as per the London Gazette dated 18 December 1942.
On 1 January 1944 Hugh was promoted to the rank of Flight Lieutenant as per the London Gazette, dated 21 January 1944.
