On the 24 January 1940 Frank was commissioned as a Lieutenant as per the London Gazette of the same date.
On 13 January the London Gazette announced that Captain (temporary Major) Frank Henry Crawford had been Mentioned in Dispatches for:
'recognition of gallant and distinguished service in the Middle East'
