| Parental Advisories- A Warning Or A Temptation? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| There is a lot to be said about the small warning labels we find on today's music CDs. The Parental Advisory is a warning label for parental figures notifying them that the CD in hand contains strong foul language, and/or violent content, and/or sexual content, and even in some cases, explicit art and/or an explicit enhanced video features. But, even though the Parental Advisory label has successfully served it's purpose of parents preventing their kids from possessing the marked CDs, there is still the fact of child curiosity. As someone who looks through the kid's view, I know that these labels cannot and will not stop us kids from possessing the desired marked CD. In fact, for some (not all), the Parental Advisory label intrigues us kid's into wanting to buy the product so as to know what content the CD has that requires such a label. It is not uncommon that kid's will either 1) Buy the labeled CD at a store that does not check age or IDs for certain purchases (Such as Media Play and Best Buy) or 2) Copy the CD from a friend or family member that owns a burnt or original copy of the CD. I have also taken note that their are two certain levels of Parental Advisory status which I think should be noted also in the Parental Advisory warning. Here are some of my examples: |

| The Level 1 Parental Advisories | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Awake - Godsmack | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Not the typical use of Parental Advisory as far as I am concerned. Contain the word f*ck three times and the word b*tch once, this CD could not pass Parental Advisory for foul language. However, this CD's overall theme may be subjected to it's Warning label. Mixing in lyrics about suicidal thoughts, some sexual references, and even murder. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| eMOTIVe - A Perfect Circle | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This CD is a case in which only one song makes a contribution to it's Parental Advisory warning. The song 'Passive', containig the word f*ck twice and ends with constant use of the word bullsh*t until completly faded out. This CD lyrically is about War and Peace, in which most of the songs are remakes of older songs we've come to know and love (such as Imagine by John Lennon). Point being that it is very unlikly any of the song's themes contribute to it's warning. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Dysfunction - Staind | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| A very strange case this one. Containing the word f*ck four times and the word sh*t twice, this CD should have made Parental Advisory for explicit lyrics, yet I am shocked it is not marked with such a label. Containing no offensive lyrical reference in which I can decipher, this CD is one of the lucky ones. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Getting Away With Murder - Papa Roach | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| One of the most popular CDs of 2004. This CD contains little foul language, using the word f*ck three times and the word sh*t once. This CD takes the warning due to, obviously, it's references to murder. But even then it's mild. Actually, the point of the Parental Advisory is due to the enhanced video feature on this CD. Containing the 'Making Of...' video for the CD. In the video, the band members use constant course language which is typical for any rock/metal band. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| No Stranger To Shame - Uncle Kracker | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| One of the most intresting CDs that actually got a Warning label. This CD is almost pure country with some moderate rap rock in two of the songs. With language not surpassing the word a** three times, this seems like your everyday country CD. However, there is a pure rap song bonus track in which Uncle Kracker uses almost every curse word in the dictionary, constatly. Mainly saying, if you don't like rap and/or rap rock, buy the 'censored' version of this CD, since the edit does not affect any of the song's quality. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
