b i g day out

- review -

okay. so here I am sitting at the computer. I've decided that I want to do a review on the big day out. it was my first ever big day out concert. it was a bit weird, because I have been to many other concerts, but none this big. rockit [december 5th 1999] was the biggest I'd been to. the rest were just singular concerts with side acts. anyway. my lovely adorable prostitutional friend bec decided to come up with me which was good, because I didn't already have anyone to go with. at first, we agreed to go as bubbles. one of the powerpuff girls. bec eventually pulled out but I went through with it because I eat my vegetables. bec stayed with me at my parents unit in perth. we went up on the Saturday morning, and went shopping at the galleria that afternoon. we were so hyper that we had the shittest time getting to sleep. oh no wait. that was me. bec goes out like a light all the time. she really does like to sleep when doopa goes to beddy-bies. the next morning I got up reasonably early due to uncontrollable excitement. after a while I decided that bec had it to easy. I skipped through the hallway, slammed the door open, and screamed "get your fucking fat arse up" she turned over and smiled at me. "you think I'm kidding?" I ran and threw myself up on the bed. "get the fuck up you lazy bitch" I repeated as I continually jumped and messed up the bed. in the middle of trying to push me off she muttered "what time is it?" "10:00" I lied. It was only 8:30 or something, but it got her up. she laid eggs when she found out though.
after we tried to eat some yukky hot nectarines, we finished getting ready and headed off for the day. when we arrived we got all sooky bums over the huge cue to get in. I thought it would take hours and hours but it wasn't bad at all. there was one dickhead though in front of us that made fun of michael jackson. I was five seconds away from squirting my juicy saliva all over his face. bec got pissed off with these old people in front of us that were describing times when they were 'bopping away' in clubs and parties and stuff.
When we got in we went to the closest stage, the java java stage. after 10 minutes or so, gyroscope came on. they were actually pretty good. we wandered around a bit, sussed out the whole place. throughout the day we scored so much free stuff. I love free stuff! machine gun fellatio I think were the next band that we kinda saw. we heard the music, and we got a photo, but we never actually saw them. we just got this big bloke to take a photo for us. next I believe was gerling. they were so fucking good. I've always really loved gerling's music, and I've always extra loved the members. especially burke [I think his name is burke anyway]. he's so entertaining! at one point he jumped up on the little white tent next to the stage and did some little dancing moves. it was so funny. I got some really good photos of it which was fortunate. also they were trying to get this song started and they started amping us up and singing, and to the same tune of whatever they were singing they said 'what the fuuuck was thaaat' as they were playing the wrong tune. I think this happened a couple of times. it was so funny. I'm guessing that it was probably one of those annoying 'had to be there' things. we had to leave before the end of the set because we needed watery liquid in our belly bellys. anyway. we decided that we better go check out the boiler room. I was a bit down due to the heat, but when I saw it my spirit was lifted with the breeze. it was so much fun. we funkydoodled ourselves up to the front of the stage and then I suddenly looked up, and realised.. wait a minute. I so know that guy. it was groove terminator [gt] it was so weird. I completely forget he was even there. next up. um. brain…mushy… cant remember things. blank.. I give up. let's just skip to silverchair hey? bec and I were almost dying for food deprivation…. again. bec is a smarter bikkie then I am so she went and bought some watermelon and we went over to get our spot for silverchair. we went in from the left of the blue stage, just a tiny bit to the right of where daniel john's would be playing. [his right] we waited for garbage to finish. they were playing on the orange stage which was next to the blue stage. I hated them so much. their set just kept going.. and going.. and going.. and seeming we were right next to the features, we copped every inch of it. ears were ringing and everything was muffled. I didn't mind a bit when silverchair came on. not a bit.
The set was really really good. it was all rainbow like and cute and looked like yummy skittle.
the time came. garbage finally left and more and more people piled into the area. I've now realised how lucky bec and I were. we hardly ever got squashed because we were only 1 or 2 people behind the actual barrier. they played this dodgy warning about crowd surfing and getting water and stuff. it was in that annoying computer voice. like when you stuff things up on an imac computer, it talks to you. then some elevator music. some smoke settled onto the stage and the crowd roared their heads off. I turned to the stage and saw ben and chris entering the stage. they both had smiles on their faces. after they were set comfortably on their instruments, the crowd screamed even more. there was a couple more seconds of anticipation and then he entered. daniel picked up his guitar and looked around for a bit, then launched into emotion sickness. I've been to two other silverchair concerts, and this was once used as the introduction song. I believe it's one of the best songs to use for an opening. daniel was wearing a gorgeous goldish shirt which made me melt [as usual] and some casual black pants. chris sported a red shirt with black pants, and.. as usual, ben had no shirt on for most of the concert. when he took it off bec turned around with a 'oooo' look in her eyes. so cute. they played a couple of new songs including 'without you' 'one way mule' 'world upon your shoulders' and the recently released 'the greatest view' more or less everyone knew this song already and it was so exciting to hear live. I can tell you, by just hearing their new songs live, gives me a lot of hope towards their new cd. I have no doubt in my mind at the extensive musical talent expressed, once again in their new album 'diorama'. daniel's mind numbing vocal abilities exceed many limits, and each song that I've heard is so individually great.
at one point, daniel said 'thankyou germany' and turned around trying to hide his childish giggle. he then turned around and laughed 'oops I mean perth. fucking perth. sorry about that." the heat started to get really bad and silverchair knew it. daniel screamed at the security stop playing mind games with them, you know you fucking have it. yeah look we can see you have it right there, JUST FUCKING GIVE IT TO THEM". after they obeyed him he stated "see look. we're important on the bill. we get listened to. laughs nah. we're so not important. were the least fucking important, noone listens to us really." chris threw us a few opened bottles of water which was very nice of him, none came in my direction unfortunately. I think ben actually attempted a few throws and got pretty far considering he was right at the back of the stage. now for a moment that I will never ever ever forget. but I know daniel would not have even remembered three seconds later. during one of the songs, daniel walked right up to the very right of the stage to where I was standing and pointed his hand to the audience along with the tune. I screamed and screamed and jumped and almost knocked people out ecetera. and then he looked at me. daniel johns looked at me. not that he probably even registered my face which sucks. but that's life. I still got to see that look that you see when somebody looks straight in your eyes. even if it's for a second. it was so good. -diiiiies- before singing miss you love, daniel exclaimed that 'this is a slow song. this song would fit into your slow song category.' oh yeah I forgot to say. during emotion sickness, daniel did the quickest spit in history. actually he also did the quickest pic change in history. during the middle of a song, he threw a pic into the audience and in that same 100th of a second he picked one off his microphone stand and continued playing. very quick quick boy we have here. another thing. they had another member. I heard it was actually a guy called julian but daniel was telling us about how 'cute they were. a fucking cute married couple. they go out together and talk about keyboards..' I don't know what's the truth though. he is a strange boy. before I forget I have to write about the sexy mouth thing he does. phwoooar. its very. um. yeah sexy is so the right word. he moves his mouth around like hes excercising it when he's not singing. it's really sexy. sexy sexy sexy.
the anthem for the year 2000 was played interestingly. I thought it was funny. because I've seen a whole bunch of his concerts on video and also just from being to two other concerts [brag] I knew what he expected from us during the beginning of the song. he wants the crowd to sing 'we are the youth' over and over and over for a while. some people figured it out in the end, but it took them a while.
god I have so much to say. daniel daniel daniel. I actually think it's a good thing that I have lots to say about the concert. they always insert humour which is good and enjoyed by everyone. he apologised for not being able to jump because he has sore knees, and said that we all "had to make up for all the fucking show's we've done and I've had to stand here like a mannequin. a cool mannequin, but a mannequin all the same."
he also attended to those in the crowd who couldn't stand still by throwing little toys out. one was a little red footy and I think a little soccer ball. he thanked the audience for not throwing stuff at them, and then some tool threw the red footy back a bit later on. but he payed them back a bit later and ditched it right back at them. they left the show after playing an unbelievably action packed version of freak, which EVERYBODY sang to. chris and ben left, daniel stayed for a couple of seconds before walking off. he continued to make sounds on his guitar for a while then cut it off. everybody screamed and cried for more. but as always, they never returned.
although every silverchair concert has been very special to me, this one would have to be my most enjoyable due to the short but sweet encounter with him and the fact that I've never been that up close to one of my favourite bands before.

silverchair always will be one of the best performers I will ever see.

after silverchair bec and I ran as fast as our 16 year old legs would take us. actually, we were running so blindly we bolted straight through a security fence and got yelled out by this big scary security guy. we were running to see john butler. I never got in so I don't really have anything to say about it. I'll see if becky can do a complete review on it.

If I remember anything else about the big day out, I will write it up.
