| DANA 30 Solid Front Axle Buildup: | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| I have driven this Blazer for just over 2 years and almost 35K miles, and in that time I have replaced both CV's, upper Ball Joints (I've needed to replace the lower ones for a long time too, but difficult to replace), and more Idler arms than I can remember. My front axle would no longer engage, and from what I've read, it wouldn't be worth my effort to replace or fix something so weak. After realizing that everything in the front end (minus a driver's side tie-rod end!) was needing to be replaced again, I got fed up with the stock Independent Front Suspension. Hence, the buildup. While I was at it, I might as well gain a little clearence too, right?... | ||||||||||||||||||||||

| This was the donor axle out of a 1997 Jeep TJ. The axle came complete which was a huge bonus for a Green-Horn like myself. After I got the axle I had to shave the perches since I will be Leaf sprung for simplicity and strength. The stock steering also had to go, and while I was at it, I disassembled most of the axle to clean it all up. |

| Above is the cleanup I did on the axle including shaving some weight. Here's my leaf springs from an '87 Wagoneer and Saginaw steering box from a '96 Cherokee. Considering this was a "Side Project" that I was doing while attending UF's college of Mechancial Engineering, I worked on it when I had time, even if it was 4am with the grinder! |
