Not so much a rant, per say...
I wanna talk about Nintendo.

Now, like Capcom, it's quite obvious to anyone who knows me that I love Nintendo, but that doesn't mean that I understand a bloody thing they do.

Mind, I TRUST them, I mean hell, I've yet to be really disappointed by them (though I DO wish they had the balls to stick behind the Virtual Boy....  I loved that thing).

But I've never understood them on much anything.....

Until today.

A few years ago, something very special happened online, and people like me who prefer games that didn't suck were granted a boon as though by god himself...

Emulation.

Now, for those of you unfamiliar with the concpet, emulation makes your computer think it is a ninendo (as an example... it's completely possible to emulate just about anything, given the horsepower) and thus allows you to play NES games on it. That's bloody great.

Then Nintendo gets all fukken huffy-puffy about how terrible we are for doing such a thing and we'll get no gifts at christamas and we're going to hell......... *blah blah blah*

I never understood why they did that. They stopped us from enjoying their bloody older games all over again, even though there wasn't a chance that they were makin much money offa them anymore (I mean hell, has a copy of Balloon Fight even been MADE in the past 10 years?).

But Nintendo, as is quite normal, was working on a new idea, and now, years later, I understand why Nintendo wouldn't sit by and let hackers rape their copyrights.

Because they weren't done making money off of Balloon Fight (again, as an example).

Nintendo has released a device for the GBA called the E-Reader. You run cards through it and it scans them, and any data on said cards, is run on the GBA.

The cool part? You can buy cards of old NES games at a price much cheaper than the original retail, and play them on the GBA, portable style... Including Balloon Fight (a favorite of mine, can you tell?)

Admittadly, pickins are slim at this point, but they won't always be. One day, I'd imagine (after Nintendo knows that the whole thing can work on a basic economic level, that is) we'll see all the greats out there. Can you imagine playin the original Zelda on yer GBA while takin on the subway?

I can, and it freaks me out.

So what I'm saying, is to buy an E-Reader (and Balloon Fight). Tell Nintendo that this is a good idea, and that good games are still worth money.

I promise, you will not regret it (assuming you like good games, of course)

So then, until the next time,
this is James signing out
