Capcom I Love You, But...
I wanna talk about my favorite game company, Capcom.

Now, it's quite obvious to anyone who knows me that I love Capcom, I mean c'mon what otaku doesn't love the sole surviving company keeping the 'hardcore' genres alive (2d Fighting and 2d Shooting), but they used to have something that they're lacking now. Call it....   initiative. Now, I realize that whilst asking them to innovate, I'm also praising their clinginess towards the old skool genres, but all I want is for them to stop being so lazy about shit. I mean, take a look at Capcom Vs SNK 2. Compare Kyosuke and Eagle to Morrigan and Blanka. I mean, how hard would it be for them to redraw the old chara art instead of just 'quick n dirty' porting it over?

Now, don't get me wrong, it's a great game, and play-mechanic wise it encapsulates everything that brings me to a Capcom game such like a moth to a flame. But it also encapsulates everything that I've come to hate about Capcom of late.

The simple fact is, for every bit of werk they did on it, and improvment they made on it from Capcom Vs SNK 1, there is a good bit of werk that they didn't do, that should have been done. I can totally appriciate the fact that the backgrounds are gorgeous and the Groove system is easily the best innovation I've seen in quite some time, but jesus, it almost seems like Capcom went back and retro-actively made the old chara sprites look like ass. And why is it that some chara are so grossly over powered that they can kill with a single super? Granted, the grooves need to be selected proper, and it has to be a ration 4 character, but still... Capcom did, at one time, balance their games decently. Want proof? Go download a ROM of Super Street Fighter 2. Now I DO realize that it's not without it's flaws, but it's so strange to think that, in the right hands, each character can be a force to be rekoned with. I guess that's what feels wrong about alot of Capcom's werk of late, moreso than anything it seems like Capcom is more conserned with overall art direction than fan satisfaction....    Which doesn't seem befitting for the company who's keeping the old skool alive....

Now, don't get me wrong, I really love the guys, I just had to say it....

If you agree, or disagree (or just wanna drop me a note) feel free to Email me at : [email protected]  (oh I pray that I set that addy up right...)

Till the next time, have fun.
