The Real Origin Of The Swedish Fish
By now you're probably wondering, "Where the hell did the whole Swedish Fish thing come from?" Well my friend, that is a very good question. First of all, the Swedish Fish is one of a long list of characters I have come up with during my lifetime. Those being:
The Amish Deer Who Only Speaks English
Super Beanman With Super Flatulent Power
Gary The Clinically Depressed Camel
Immit The Three-Legged Dog
Senor Fluffypants The Brazilian Sock Puppet
Pierre The French Frog Who Ate His Own Legs
Dwayne The Duck Who Secretly Plans To Rule The World But Never Quite Succeeds
Carl The Canadian Cowboy
Monet The Fifth But Ambiguously Gay Ninja Turtle
Moomy the Boneless Cow
Pinky The Un-Angelic Angel
The Talking Horse That Prefers To Stay Silent
Vinnie The Vegetarian Vulture
Bob The Pirate With Two Peg Legs
Obojo The Monkey Who Decided Not To Chase The Weasel Around The Mulberry Bush
Harry The Elevator Who Screams For No Reason
...plus some others I can't remember at the moment
Anyways, the Swedish Fish was named after my favourite candy, which if you don't know what that is by now, then you're just stupid. Also, I have a strange obsession with Canada for some reason, a sort of love/hate relationship you could say, and ever since I did that report on Sweden in the 9th grade, I've obsessed about that too. Anywho, what's the significance of The Swedish Fish's name you ask? Well, His first name is taken from Catcher In The Rye, still one of my most favourite books, the main character of course being Holden Caulfield if you didn't already know. Thus the name Holdenfield, and his last name, Flounderson, I just made that up, you can do that when you're smart. I've always maintained that what makes people smart is reading. I've read hundreds of books, half of which I can't remember, actually I do remember the first book I read. It was when I was about 5 or so, and the book was about this bug who was trying to find a new house, I got so excited when I read it for the first time, I must have read it over and over a million times before I returned it to the library. But I digress. In real life I hate fish. Can't stand them at all. I like fish in cartoon form, but nothing else. I'm not a big seafood fan. And what got me to thinking about The Swedish Fish? I mean, I hadn't though about him in years, not since I created him for my oral report on Sweden (I was big on using mascots back then). Well it all happened when I saw this cartoon called Fishbar on the internet. As soon as they started talking about Swedes and ham and so forth, I suddenly remembered the character I had created and voila, The Swedish Fish website was born. Then I remembered that it's been a while since I ate those Swedish Fish candies, so I went to the store and got some. Man, they're good.
