"I don't know. It never occurred to me that you wanted to marry me. I thought that you wouldn't want to be apart of the pregnancy. I thought that you weren't ready to be a dad. I thought I was alone." Britney said truthfully. Justin stood there stunned. He wanted to comfort her and to show her how much he really loved her.
"Britney, don't you know that I would love to marry you? That I wanted to be apart of your pregnancy? Brit, I love you. You should have already known that." Justin said to her. Britney knew that Justin always loved her...but she was just afraid to believe it. Justin walked out of the door and into the waiting room. She should have known that I loved her. I'll always love her. Justin thought to himself.
"Look who want to see daddy!" Lynne said to Justin with Laylee in her arms. Justin took the 3 month old in his arms and watched as she fell asleep. "Justin, what did my daughter say to you?" Lynne asked in a concern voice.
"She said that she didn't know why she never came back to me. That it never occurred to her that I want to be apart of the pregnancy or that I wanted to marry her." Justin said taking the word out of Britney's mouth.
"She said that she was afraid and thought that she was alone. Lynne, what am I gonna do? Ever since Laylee was born, things between us have been different. It's like we're not even friends anymore. Lynne, I don't want to loose her again. Laylee needs her mother, and so do I."
Lynne looked at the young man she always thought of as her son. Ever since he and Brit were best friends, Justin always came to her for advice, talking out problems. And each time he came to her, she was able to help. But for the first time, she couldn't help. No longer could she tell him what to do. This was his decision as to how he was gonna deal with Britney.
"Justin, I wish I could help. But I can't. I can't tell you what to do. Look honey, Brit's gonna be home in a week, or so the doctor said, and hopefully you two can work this out. Talk to her. If ya want, I'll be there, but, I can't speak for you." Lynne said in her caring, motherly voice.
A week had now passed. Lynne drove her daughter home where everyone was at. On the way there, Brintey asked, "Mama, what am I gonna do? I've really messed up this time. Things between Justin and I are so different. Where did I go wrong?"
"Well, honey, I think maybe you should be more open to Justin. Tell him how you feel. Tell him how you felt about the pregnancy. Hon, I think with Justin, you have to let him know whats going on. I bet you anything, he's feeling the same way you are. Confussed." Britney thought long and hard about what her mom said.
The next 30 minutes were quiet between them. Britney thought about how she could make things up with Justin. They arrived at the house and Justin walked out to greet her. "Hey," he said to Britney.
"I'll leave you two alone." Lynne said walking into the house.
"Hey." Britney replied. Both Britney and Justin felt the tension raise between them.
"Wanna go in the backyard and talk?" Justin suggested. Britney agreed and they walked towards the backyard.
"Brit, I'm sorry. I just thought that when I became a daddy that I would be there for the pregnancy with you." Justin started off. Britney could tell this was gonna be a long conversation...but they both needed it.
"How did you know that I would be the one pregnant with your child?"
"Because it's only been you. Britney, I hope that our friendship doesn't end because of this. I really love you and I don't want to loose you. The child we have is the most wonderful thing that has happened to me. To us. And as soon as she's born, things are different. Britney, I don't want to loose you. I want you to be apart of my life forever."
"Justin, I know things are different. And to be honest with you, I don't want to loose you either. Justin, Laylee being born has changed everything. Some for the good, some for the bad. Mostly good though. But anyways, what I'm trying to say is. If you're willing to, I want to give 'us' another chance. We deserve it. Both of us." Without even saying a word, Justin leaned down and kissed the mother of his child.
"So is that a yes?" Britney asked completely knowing the answer.
"Yes. Come on, lets go inside." Justin said as he picked her up and gave her a piggyback ride. Lynne say this and smiled.
"They finally solved their problem." Lynne said under her breath so that none of the other guest could hear what she said. Putting Britney down, Justin gave her another passionate kiss.
"I love you." Britney whispered. She hadn't said those words in a long time. Not since Laylee was born.
