CHALLIS FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHS

 

Ulysses was the son of John T. Challis and Rosina Parker and the nephew of Alvah Payne Challis the founder of Challis, Idaho. He was born in Osage Co., Kansas in 1868. His parents moved the family to Harper, Harper Co., Kansas where he met and married Margaret Alzina Wisler. She is the daughter of Anthony Wisler and Mary Freed. She was born in 1866 in Elkhart, Indiana and her family moved to Harper, Harper Co., Kansas. They were married in Harper Co., Kansas on February 7, 1889. Found in book A pg 366 of Harper Co., Marriage records. They had the following children.

This is a picture of John L Challis (my great grandfather) on the left and a friend on the right.

 

This is another picture of the Ulysses Grant Challis family however I do not know who everyone is in the picture. I do know that the man on the far left is my great grandfather John L. Challis. John L Challis served in WWI and fought in France. He returned and later married Ruby Jane Pedigo who is seen below.

This is Ruby Jane Pedigo the daughter of Joshua Abraham Lincoln Pedigo and Lucy Birdie Atwell. She married John L Challis and they had several children as well including my grandmother Ruby Challis.

 

This is my Grandmother Ruby Lee Challis. She passed away in 1990 of ovarian cancer.
