SHOWMANSHIP

Showmanship judges the human, not the dog, Juniors show their ability in presenting their dog, according to the same rules that adult handlers use in the breed ring. Juniors compete in this class instead of breed becuase it teaches them/you about proper show ring etiquette. There are two classes in Showmanship, ( three in 4-H ) The first is Novice, where first time exhibitors show. The second is Junior or Senior THIS IS SECOND ONLY IN 4-H wich is your second time or if you havn't won three first place ribbons. The third is the Open class, which is where you go when you win three first places.

Some 4-H Showmanship Ettiquette

Make sure that you are wearing your khaki bottems (Girls-skirt or pants and Boys-pants) and your white shirts

Make sure that your dog is groomed and looks it's doggy best

Make sure that you look at the judge at all times when you are in the ring

Do not talk to other exhibitors

Don't get in between your dog and the judge, eavan though the judge is judging you he/she needs to see your dog

Be polite and if you need help ask another 4-Her or a leader

Some Good Tips

Showmanship is the only event that you can bring "bait" or dog  treats in. Take advantage, your pooch will love you

At any dog show you will have to take a test, or the judge may ask you a dog knowledge question, make sure that you study about your dogs breed and other things like feet types and anatomy

When you are preparing for a showmanship show, make sure you have the following

- A Kennle

- A dog first aid kit

- Dog treats

- Your tack box with your grooming tools

- Fresh water for your dog
