Cattery Tour
We have begun a three phase system for ensuring the health of kittens and sanity of our adult cats.  Adults are kept in one of three large, washable  indoor runs, with lots of interesting things to do, like log scratching posts, tiers of shelves to climb and a view of the outdoors.  They are rotated through an outdoor run as well, and have one other cat (either a mate or a neutered, long term resident) for companionship. Breeding males live year round in the cattery.
Pregnant females(generally 2 at a time) live at home in our heated garage in a series of kennels. They spend days free in a large double car garage, and nights in their kennels.Again lots of scratching posts, climbing posts and companionship are provided, as well as lots of playtime with our kids. Wherever cats are housed in pairs or litter groups, we use multiple litter boxes scooped daily, with a virucidal disinfectant added.
Mothers with kittens live in our house, where they can be closely supervised and socialized.  Kittens only have close contact with their mothers and littermates. If we have many kittens at one time, older kittens are also housed in the isolation ward of my clinic.
