What I find troubling, is the lack of support disenfranchised growers are receiving, not only from their Board-of-Directors, but also from a majority of their peers. The arrogance of Ocean Spray has infested every segment of the co-op and continues to grow while profits plummet. I won't fall victim to that same arrogance by drawing simple analogies from historical references that explain what such an attitude will do to a company, country, neighborhood, or family. We're all intelligent people and have the capacity to see the obvious pattern.

Many of the O.S. growers blame the independent growers for the problems inherent to their own company. I suppose when you are "dependent" upon men such as Tom Bullock and Don Hatton your outlook is going to be somewhat guarded. Unfortunately, the aggression you feel toward the independent growers is displaced and will only make your troubles multiply. The men steering your ship are responsible for your safe passage... Unfortunately, they're preoccupied with "spin control" and letting you drift aimlessly.

I am acutely aware of how little thought my words will provoke amongst the minds of those jaded by Ocean Spray rhetoric, but I challenge you to think for yourselves. A great man once said, "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Your Board-of-Director's have been corrupted because of the absolute power you vested in their ability to lead. Take charge!
