8/6/02 Wareham, Massachusetts - In two personnel advances, Decas Cranberry Products, Inc., based in Wareham, Massachusetts, makes further progress in its planned evolution from a commodity-oriented cranberry supplier to an international ingredient company including non-commodity, technologically-advanced products.

Jeffrey Carlson has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer.  Carlson held the position of Vice President of Operations for six years at Decas and is the former Executive Director of the Cape Cod Cranberry Growers Association. Prior to his involvement with the cranberry industry he spent ten years at the Massachusetts Department of Food and Agriculture, his last position being Bureau Chief of the State Pesticide Control Board.  According to CEO and Decas Board Chairman, John C. Decas, Carlson will take over management of the day-to-day activities of the vertically integrated food processing company.

Concurrently, Nikos Linardakis, MD has joined the company as Science and Health Director.  Dr. Linardakis is spearheading a new initiative to develop and market a progressive range of products targeting the health and nutrition markets. Prior to joining Decas, Nikos Linardakis was the Editor-in-Chief for McGraw-Hill Companies of New York and a scientist in Salt Lake City, Utah.  His work has led to new product development in companies such as USANA Health Sciences, Inc. (Nasdaq: USNA) (1, 2) and HGM Medical Laser Systems. He brings his experience in FDA compliance, protocol design, physician-liaison functions, and design of nutritional products.  He is the published author of over a dozen medical and health-related books.  (Ed. note: Click here for books by Dr. Nikos Linardakis.)

“Decas symbolizes quality, and we will create quality products based on scientific knowledge.  Our goal is to anticipate our consumers’ needs in order to effectively meet their demands,”  highlights Dr. Linardakis.  Nikos has a broad formal education. “We are very fortunate to have these two top notch professionals with us at Decas,” stated John C. Decas. “As our company continues to develop as an international ingredient supplier, it is essential that our management team possesses both the technical ability and leadership qualities necessary to succeed.  Both these individuals have these qualities.”

The Decas Companies have been growing and marketing cranberries and cranberry products for nearly 70 years.
