| Craig's Story | ||||||||||
| Our son Craig is a sweet, bright 9-year old boy with a great sense of humor. Unfortunately, he has a progressive neurological disorder that defied diagnosis for years. In August 2003, after a very long journey from doctor to doctor, we learned through a muscle biopsy that Craig most likely has something called Mitochondrial Disease. The mitochondria are found in each cell in the body, and they produce the energy we need to function. When they fail, the body's organs breakdown. In Craig's case his brain, nerves and muscles are most affected by the disease. Mitochondrial disease is a little known and, as of yet, incurable disorder. (www.umdf.org for more info). Since that time I (Craig's Mom) and Dalton (Craig's 7 year old brother) have been diagnosed with mitochondrial disease as well. It often runs in families, showing up in the most affected member first. Thank you so much to all our family and friends who check up on Craig, and now all of us, through this website. We don't update it often, but we will try to post any big changes, for better or worse. God bless, Dave and Donna ([email protected]) |
