Guidelines for Practice Reports
Dear Band Parent,
This letter is to inform you as to how to fill out the practice report your child will get every week. "Practice Report" blank forms are always available in the band room. Each sheet will contain six (6) weeks worth of blank practice forms. Students are responsible for getting these blank report forms, taking them home, obtaining parent’s signature, and returning them when due. (EACH FRIDAY) Late Practice Reports will not be accepted. Parents will be responsible for making sure students have blank forms, recording amount of minutes practiced daily, signing the form, and encouraging students to turn in the signed form on each Friday.
Every child in band should practice 30 minutes per day on average to maintain skills and the progress in their band careers. If your child does 30 minutes per night for 6 out of 7 days, then he will receive an 'A' for his practice grade. Anything lower will result in lower grades for practice. Each practice report has the whole grading scale so you and your child will both know what must be done to receive a certain grade.
Children should take the blank practice report home and have the parent write in the amount of time practiced each evening. On Thursday evenings, parents should carefully add the total number of minutes recorded, sign the form, detach it from the sheet, (cut with scissors) and give it to the student to turn in on Fridays. Some parents have found it helpful to keep the practice sheets on the family bulletin board or the fridge. The grading scale is as follows:
Minutes Grade
180 or more 100 - A
150 90 - B
120 80 - C
90 70 - D
60 or less 60 - F
Thank you for your cooperation
