Although Craiglathie is a small establishment we are proud of our facilites and feel that they could easily compete with any amenties provided by bigger barns.  The horses are not seperated by age or gender (stallions excepted) as we expect our horses to display good manners all the time!
The horses are turned out everyday unless the weather or the ground seem particularily atrocious.  Craiglathie comprises of approximately 50 acres ensuring each horse receives the minimum of two-thirds of an acre for foraging.  Some of the ground is split up into smaller fields and paddocks used for riding and schooling.  Each field has an adequate shelter, a water trough and mineral blocks available.  Stallions are turned out seperately as are mares with foals but we allow mares and geldings to mix.  The horses receive alfalfa in the afternoons as well to supplement the grass but we avoid feeding hay in spring and summer unless absolutely necessary. The fences are all wooden post and rails to prevent injury and all the hay, straw and oats are produced from Craiglathie land.
Each barn has running water, electric lighting and a tack and feed room.  The horses are bedded down in straw in looseboxes approximately 4m x 5m.  Each barn also has a larger box for foaling as well.  Our quarantine stables are kept behind the farmhouse to allow no threat of contamination from infection.  They are situated well away form the main stabling area and staff can also keep a closer eye on the horse in case of trouble.  The horses are brought in every night.  They are fed twice a day and receive a haynet at night as well.  Each box has a mineral block and water buckets are always available.
We have recently completed building a large outdoor sand school.  The school allows training and schooling regardless of the state of the ground and is also floodlit.  It also can comfortably accomodate a dressage arena or a Grand Prix jumping course and is therefore ideal for shows.
Craiglathie is also pleased to annouce the second anniversary of our indoor sand school!  The school is floodlit and has seating for approximately 60 and a commentators box.  It is ideal for indoor shows as it is large enough to accomodate a dressage arena or a showjumping course as well.  It is also extremely light and airy due to large and numerous windows.  During winter when the days are shorter and the weather is dreadful we can continue schooling our horses regardless of outside conditions ensuring they receive plenty of exercise and schooling!
As our main discipline is eventing, Craiglathie also has a cross country course built around its fields including a water complex.  The heights range from 2'0 to 5'9 which allow us to train our horses from the beginning to end all on site!
Craiglathie also consists of 2 acres of formal gardens, a 17th century granite farmhouse and an old coach house with numerous other outbuildings.  The coach house has been refurbished into staff accomodation.  The gardens are both functional and ornamental.  The kitchen gardens produce fruit, vegetables and herbs for consumption and also house hens.  The formal gardens have many beautiful features such as a rose walk, an Italian garden and an ornamental pond.
