CALIFORNIA HISTORY |
| Through a story I was told,
back in the Early 1900's Bernard H Sonntag; had a falling out with
his father Frank H. Sonntag. One night, Bernard sneaked out of his window
and hitched hiked from New Orleans to Los Angles California.
This was the being of the great migration across the United states for
many other Sonntags.
From the stories that I have been told Ben settled in Los Angeles where he first worked on a farm where now sits the City Hall of Los Angeles. From there we had found some information on Ben in a document stating employment from a screen manufacturer in the area at the time. Other Sonntags moved to the Golden State from New Orleans. Roxie, sister of Ben and George his brother. Roxie and Ben stayed in Los Angeles, but George eventually moved to Las Vegas. George and Roxie had no siblings. At least none that we know of. Ben had two sons. Frank and Jim Sonntag. Frank Joined the Navy in 1942 and Stayed there until 1969. Do to the moves from location to location, he and his wife finally settled in San Diego where he was close to his work. Jim who was born many years after Frank grew up in Los Angeles and eventually moved to Northern California. As of Today, the Sonntags have stayed in California area except for one. This is Craig Sonntag who because of a job affiliations is living in Texas. Although there was a large migration to California, some Sonntag's stayed in Louisiana. Until we are able to trace all family trees, there is the possibility that there are cousins still in the area.
