Notes:
Smooth
Operations:
As youth we need to know exactly what’s going on.
Announcements need to be made clear, and also with enthusiasm.
This is a way to make things run smoothly.
It can be done to motivate or to de-motivate.
When announcements are being made to sound that it is unimportant then
the youth won’t feel motivated and won’t be looking forward to the event.
Structure:
Youth leaders need documentation with clearly stated procedures.
When plans are written down, the next person who takes a look at this
will know exactly what the next move will be (for the youth specifically).
In this way another person can easily take over from you as youth leader.
This ensures continuous operations, as well as smooth
operations. The plan is to make
sure that if the youth leader decides to step down, there will be someone who
can take over without the youth coming to a stand still.
At
the moment things are not working as they should.
Why? Because we are still
trying to create a structure.
Plan
: Activities planned around these dates and times.
To
have a plan will also ensure that the youth run smoothly. Once again, we can have a plan, but if these ideas of ours
get announced wrong then it will not work.
1.
MOTIVATING
OTHERS AND SELF
Get
to know your youth. Let them get to
know you. You have to motivate
yourself before you can motivate others.
How?
* Keep on going
How?
* Stay positive
How?
* Do not have APATHY (Don’t want to get involved, don’t care
attitude)
We
must have the attitude of wanting to make things better.
Youth need someone who can lead them.
We, as youth leaders must stay on the move and be full of life.
Give the youth something good to follow, and they will
follow!

We
should not be part of the 98 % who do not care.
Volunteer
Organization:
You do not receive any form of payment. You
start thinking that you are giving something for nothing. In such a situation
there should be another form of motivation to keep you going.
Why
are we here?
·
We
enjoy the outcome of the things we make happen.
·
We
would like to get the youth excited about being involved in the youth.
AS
YOUTH LEADERS WE HAVE TO ENJOY WHAT WE ARE DOING!!
2.
EARLY WARNING AND RESPONSE
Psychology
/ Early warnings :
·
The
first thing we think about is negativity. A
change in behaviour shows that there could be a problem.
The youth is not as interested in youth as always.
Youth is distancing himself / herself.
Identify the problem.
·
The
positive side could be that you could identify:
-
A
good leader in someone or
-
Someone
who is musically talented
We
must be on the lookout for potential.
·
Another
area could be that a person is just quiet.
Always on his / her own. That is not a problem, but could later develop
into a problem. (Get youth to take part in activities and not be on their own
all the time. But do not force them
either, that might just push them away.)
Get
youth to trust you so that they are able to open up to you.
Communicate with them and interact with your youth.
Response:
Solve problems; by having a good heart a lot can be accomplished.
