Moments of Joy

I wrote very little poetry between 1992 and 1999

home page 1999

She saw me writing and asked: 'wha-cho-doin'

'Writing' said I. She climbed up onto my lap

She sees the pencil in my mouth, says 'Wha-cho-chewin'

'Not chewing' said I, 'Trying to use my thinking cap.'

She tickles my cheek with a butterfly kiss.

I ask for a hug, she says 'Can't - must go and play'

Softly I smile and begin to reminisce

She'll come back when I start writing my essay.

I Gave my Heart to you

I gave my heart to you

You gave your heart to me.

The winter brought in cold

But you gave warmth to me.

Although the days were gray

And everyone felt blue;

You never murmured once

But made my dreams come true.

The sun shines bright by day

But disappears at night;

And yet you are always

So radiant and bright.

On a deep night we yearn

For the stars in the sky,

Yet they cannot compare

With your beautiful eyes.

How Long

I know I will return

But when, I do not know

While we've been apart

My love for you did grow.

Your feelings I can't read

Your heart I cannot see

Yet nights, when I'm asleep

I feel your heart beat for me.

But let patience have her perfect work

Let it control our heart and soul

For the pain which we endure

Will surely make us whole.

Ode To A star

I toiled from one hour to the next

My inference seemed in a mess -

I watched the little lamp that burned,

The midnight oil in it, get less.

The moon outside seemed so alone

I looked above; it broke my heart.

My thoughts then turned to love -

I thought of you, "we are apart".

My eyes then searched the sky

and lay transfixed upon a star.

Its beauty gave me sight

To see that the sun is not so far.

For although the midnight oil

Burned out and made me mope,

The thought that the sun will rise

Filled my soul with renewed hope.

When I am called upon,

My knowledge, to put to the test;

Then I'll think of that star

That set my mind at rest.

And when I see you again

Your radiance will fill my soul -

And like the sun that rises,

My love for you will be whole.

When Shall We Meet Again

When shall it be that we meet again

Will the sun be full or will it rain.

If the stars aren't shining and there is no moon

It wouldn't matter,if we'd meet soon.

How my heart longs to know, "When will we meet again".

Sometimes it aches, to know that I had to go

E'en before I told that I love you so.

And my heart doth pine forever with you to be

Yet will we only meet, in that great eternity?

How my heart longs to know, "When will we meet again".

Dedication

to the two most Wonderful Parents, Maureen and Victor

All thanks and adoration belong to you

For the things you’ve done for us,

            Nobody else can do.

With love and care you both nurtured me,

So that the truth,

            I could plainly see.

And also the fact that you kept your word;

Of the vow you made, the day

You brought us before the Lord.

For the example shown that love can last forever,

That vows made to God,

Were meant to be broken, never.

We thank you both, with our hearts and souls

That you could have kept us,

            Away from Satan’s holds.

Ma and Pa

I miss you more and more each day
Now you're across the land, so far away
Even now I'm delighted whenever you call
To lean against you, I can never fall.
