The Easter Truth

Defending the Easter Truth

There are many questions around our Lord’s sacrificial death. In particular, there is the issue of whether or not to take this event and others in the bible, literally.

Contemplating the events, I think that such an incident should never have been allowed to occur. Such brutality! Especially to someone as perfect as our Lord, Jesus Christ. Why, I ask myself, why?

The biblical record of the mass exodus from Egypt details to the finest point some of the things that happened.  I think that these events occurred for the preparation of mankind to accept what would happen to the Messiah.

God, through Moses, afflicted many plagues upon Egypt, and at the end of each plague the Pharaoh’s heart was hardened.  A quick six steps back to Abraham’s journey through Egypt – the Pharaoh of the day had to learn, in very difficult circumstances, that there is ONE God who is all powerful.

The final plague during Moses’ tenure, was when the Angel of death struck ruthlessly throughout the land.  But all was not lost.

Redemption from death of the first-born, and slavery in Egypt was provided and the angel of death would Pass over those redeemed.  This, through the sacrificial death (of a lamb) with certain procedures to be followed, such as:

-         eating the meat  (“Eat, this is my body …”)

-         sacrificing as a burnt offering the rest

-         eating bitter herbs (probably radish)

-         baking the unleavened bread (see the meat above …)

-         being prepared to leave at short notice ("Behold, for quickly I shall come ...")

-         accepting that some will be left behind

-         following Moses where he was to lead

So, the events in the time of Moses (which are still celebrated as the Passover) were a preparation for the events in the time of the Messiah (during the Passover feast).
