Painting 'Nids: The Organic approach.

Well, the other day I bought me some of the New tyranid
Warriors from Games Workshop. I was most impressed by the new plastic moldings,
and believe these to be some of the best Plastic models GW has produced so far.
I have also seen many varied color schemes used on these, including the numerous
examples found in the Tyranid Codex, But I wanted something a bit different. I’m
a great fan of The Predator Movies, and love the color scheme used on the
Monster of the same name, and this is the look I have tried to emulate here.

Step 1: I started by painting the model Overall with a
pale sandy beige, similar to Bleached bone, but a tad more grayish. I Then
proceeded to cover it in dark brown (scorched brown) spots, Larger in the center
of the areas I wanted to end up darker on the finished model

Step 2: A wash of dark red brown was applied all over
the model. Keep this thin, and reapply more selectively in the deeper recesses
if necessary.

Step 3: I made up a dark glaze from very dark brown and
some retarding (extender) medium, and painted this onto the back, tops of all
the arms, legs and tail, fading it out towards the edges. A glaze is basically
transparent paint that can be built up in layers to achieve a shaded effect.
