Apology to Elian
Posted on 7/10/00
On behalf of all
Americans, I would like to apologize to you, Elian. It appears that your
mother has died in vain and the fools who think that you belong with your
father at any
cost have won. I believe that these people don't think and want the
easiest solution. They
don't want have to see the truth. Never mind the fact that you will be
taken away from your
family and placed into Castro's militant youth group. They don't want to
hear about how
you will be forced to work in the sugar fields while your still only a
young teenager. They
don't want to hear Castro's daughter say that you should stay in America.
I guess they
know what's best. As long as your with your dad, they can close their eyes
and sleep at
night. Ignorance is bliss.
I'm sorry that our president is more interested in his legacy than in your
freedom. You
arrived at the wrong time. Perhaps under a different administration, one
that is not
beholding to every communist nation, you might have known what freedom is.
You
would have been able to choose the path of your life. Instead, our
president thought it
best to coddle a tyrant and a known killer. Castro's agenda is more
important to Clinton
that the Constitution of the United States.
I'm sorry that my country, government, people and justice system let you
down. When
you grow up, I hope you don't harbor any hatred for us. When your fingers
bleed in the
sugar fields and when your body aches from the forced military service,
remember there
are many Americans who wanted you to stay.
Forgive us, please
