Vancouver, British Columbia...

Saturday May 1st 1999

We went from the airport to White Rock, where Craig's brother and sister-in-law live. They took us for a tour of the area, which is beautiful, and we all went to the North Vancouver Capilano Suspension Bridge and Park. The Bridge was established in 1889 by a pioneering Scotsman George Grant MacKay. The bridge extends 450 feet across and 230 feet above the Capilano River. It is quite a sight! The Nature Park contains an old-growth forest with meandering trails, a 200 foot waterfall, mountain-fed trout ponds, and much more. After the park we proceded back to the house, and Craig and Cameron decided to play endless games of Star Wars Trivia Pursuit until some insane hour.

We left the apartment at 6:00 am. We drove to the Ferry (The Spirit of BC) to go to Victoria. From there, the four of us decided to tour around, and then proceded to the Royal Oak Beach Hotel, where we were about to embark on an exciting whale watching adventure. We boarded the Pride of Victoria whale watching excursions vessel, which was a small but cozy and comfortable boat.

As you can see, we took some great photos from pamphlets, since we never saw any whales. We did see porpoises, sea lions, a variety of sea birds, and bald eagles. It was a very nice change from the city. We took the Queen of Saanich Ferry back to the mainland, and headed in for the evening.

Craig and I decided to make an adventure of our own, and take the bus to the Sky Train, an above ground subway. We met up with a friend of Craig's, Larry, and his bus Priscilla, and toured the city with Land Sea Tours. We had a terrific time! We saw Chinatown, Gastown, Stanley Park, Queen Elizabeth Park, Shaugnessy Heights, and Granville Island. Not bad for our first in-town visit!

Above is a picture of the steamclock found outside of Gastown. The clock runs entirely off steam, hence, steam-clock. 1
