Leonora was our first country posting, I'd never been up north as I'd come to Australia from the UK. Everyone would say "what are you going there for, its in the middle of nowhere" but it was actually quite a nice little town and we ended up staying there for 2 years. We had our first daughter while in Leonora, although they don't deliver babies at the hospital there so ended up having her in Kalgoorlie. Leonora is situated 832 kilometres inland from Perth in the North Eastern Western Australian Goldfields. Leonora continues as the service centre for the mining, exploration and well established pastoral industry. -Population 2500.

323km southeast of Perth. Population: 306. We have now been in Cranbrook just over a year and a half. It's a lovely town, only thing about living down south is the cold, especially in Cranbrook. The weather just can't seem to make its mind up, you can get up in the morning and it be freezing, by afternoon its hot or raining. A bit of a difference to living up north.
Wiluna would have to be the most remote town that we have been to. 183km east of Meekatharra and 532km north of Kalgoorlie. I always remember my hubby saying that when I got off the plane he thought that I would cry, as there was just nothing to see but red dirt. We would usually go to Meekatharra once a month to do our shopping which was'nt much fun when it was a two hour trip there on a dirt road, not much fun with two kids. Wiluna is nearly 1000kms from Perth so it would take us nearly 9hrs drive to get down there to visit family. We did nearly 2 years in Wiluna and most of the time enjoyed it and we made some very good friends. While in Wiluna we had our second daughter but once again, there was only a nursing post so I flew to Perth and had her in Rockingham.

Cue would have to be the place that I enjoyed the most out of our country postings. Although there is nothing really in Cue, we made some very good friends. We spent 18mths there and although I don't miss Cue the place at all, I do miss the people. A town for lots of socialising!!!! We also had our third baby in Meekatharra while we were there as once again Cue did'nt have a hospital.
After being in Wiluna for 2 years we felt like we needed to get back to civilisation and to be closer to our family. I think by that time though we were used to the country life and could'nt get used to living back in Perth. I ended up having to go back to work full-time as we'd just bought our house and the 2 girls went into childcare. The one thing that we did love about Rockingham is that we were close to the beach and there was more for the kids to do.
