These trays were fairly easy to make and are great gift ideas!
Materials
Plain wood tray
Crackle Medium
Acrylic Paint in desired colors
Bristle Brush
Foam Brush
Sea Sponge
Sealer (I prefer one with a glossy finish)
Various Rub-On Transfers
Instructions
Take wood tray and place on newspaper or a protected table.
Using the foam brush, completely coat the tray front and back with primary color.
After it has completely dried (usually within 15 mins) take Sea Sponge and generously apply Crackle Medium to tray (do sections at a time like the face of the tray, then the sides, then the back, etc.) by dipping the sponge in Crackle Medium then dabbing all over tray.
Let the Crackle Medium dry for about 10-15 mins or until tacky. If it's wet or completely dry it will not work correctly. It should be tacky/sticky.
Take Bristle Brush and dipping in secondary color, apply paint to crackled area with easy paint strokes in ONE DIRECTION being careful not to overlap over a previously painted area.
Let completely dry (this may take over an hour)
Do this until the entire portions of tray you want crackled are finished.
After completely dry, take Rub-On Transfers and cut as close as possible around desired motifs.
After applying Rub-Ons, take Sealer and using Foam Brush, generously apply Sealer to entire tray. (I usually use 2 coats.)
Let completely dry and your tray is ready!
