This is another one of my beginning projects. I basically did a single crochet in each single crochet for the entire project. For the border I did pretty much the same thing, but I didn't allow any spaces for the corners so it's not quite perfect. However, if you want to make something simple like this, just grab some baby yarn, chain as many as you want to make it the right size and just do a simple single crochet.
