USS Bridge (AOE 10)

During the summer of 2001, I spent a month aboard the USS Bridge, AOE 10. Here are some pictures of my experiences there.

This is the division I was assigned to. The men and women of the 2nd Deck division were a lot of fun to work with.

One of the many things I did while on the Bridge was take part in the mass casualty drills. The two men sitting next to me are BM2 Roberts and BM2 Regester.

I had the unique opportunity to participate in night operations. The man most visible in this picture is BM2 Crayton.

One of the more exciting things I got to do while on the Bridge was go over the side in a Bosun's chair. The bosun's chair is used to suspend sailors over the side of the ship's hull in order to paint certain hard to reach places.

Here's a better view of me hanging over the side.

I also took part in many of the training excercises on board the ship. During a General Quarters drill, I joined a group of Gunner's Mates and had the chance to man a .50 cal machine gun.

These are the guys I spent most of my time with.

I was very fortunate to be assigned to BM1 Adams. He not only did a great job in familiarizing me with the ships' systems, he also took me fly fishing one weekend.
