Instructions
This design is my own so, I guess it's a Lyn Wilkinson original. Perhaps the first of many??? (Let me know what you think.) The pattern covers multiples of 6 pleats. (For Sarah's dress there were 132 pleats in total, but the smockind doesn't extend to the armholes.)
The design is worked entirely in two step trellis stitch.
Rows 1a, 2. (2 rows)Two step trellis beginning with an under cable.
Rows 2a, 3, 3a. (3 rows) Two step trellis beginning with an over cable.
Rows 4, 4a, 5. (3 rows) Two step trellis beginning with an under cable.
Rows 5a, 6, 6a (3 rows) Two step trellis beginning with an over cable.
Rows 7, 7a, 8 (3 rows) Two step trellis beginning with an under cable.
Rows 8a, 9, (2 rows) Two step trellis beginning with an over cable.
