Cradle Creek Aussies - About Us

Me & my boys: Lance (right) & Ryot (left)

My name is Lyndsey Hopkins, I'm 21 years old and the one who got my family involved with these outstanding little dogs. I am currently a student at a local community college, striving for my BS degree in Information Technology.

I have always been a dog lover. Never has a time in my life went by when I haven't owned a dog. My love for dogs made me long for a sport in which I could compete with them, so I started doing some research. I learned about dog comformation shows, agility, herding, obedience and many other dog events. I soon began attending conformation shows and studying different breeds. I don't really know what struck me about those tailess, funny-colored dogs, but somehow that particular breed captured my attention above all the others. I began talking to different breeders, bought every book available on Aussies, attended more shows, studied the standard on as many different dogs as possible, and about a year and a half later, brought my first Aussie, a black-tri boy named Ryot. It just so happened out of that same litter my mom fell in love with a little blue merle boy. Needless to say, Lance came home with us as well about two weeks later. It was from that moment on that the Aussie addiction began.

Cradle Creek Aussies resides on 8 acres located in Martinsville, Virginia. It is owned and maintained by my family and I. We have been actively involved with the Australian Shepherd breed since January 2005 and acquired our first show Australian Shepherd early March 2005. We are currently making plans at expanding our facility to create more room for more dogs. All of our dogs are considered part of the family and are free to roam our home as they please.

Health screening in dogs is very important to us. All Aussies used for showing and breeding have their eyes cleared annually. All Aussies at or over the age of two years have their hips x-rayed and rated by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. All are up-to-date on vaccinations, are on heartworm prevention and flea/tick control. We hope to begin DNA profiling our dogs and performing thyroid testing in the near future.

I am currently a member of The Australian Shepherd Club of America , The United States Australian Shepherd Association and The Blue Ridge Australian Shepherd Club .
