House in the Languedoc (South-West France)

Our house is in the department of Hérault, at the top of a pretty, quiet village, 1½ hours from Montpellier, about the same from Carcassonne airport. There is a small shady garden and parking space for two cars. The house is simply but comfortably furnished. Ground floor consists of a small sitting room (containing 2 single divans), bathroom (with shower) and kitchen which opens onto a large terrace with a spectacular view over the vineyards. Upstairs there are two bedrooms (double bed in each). Underneath the terrace/kitchen there is a large dry cave which can sleep more people. Three kilometres away, there are small towns with shops, an intermarché, and bars. There are excellent shopping complexes outside Béziers (half an hour's drive), while Pézenas, about the same distance, is a well-known cultural centre. Village wine growers and cooperatives sell local wines: Faugères, St Chinian, Muscat,...

View from the garden up to the terrace

The Mediterranean beaches are about 30-40 minutes drive; Mèze, on the Bassin de Thau, also has a nice beach; river swimming in the Orb and the Gorges d'Héric. Throughout the summer there are frequent fairs and festivals in local villages. Art exhibitions in Pézenas, an interesting art gallery in Montpellier, and the Salvador Dali museum at Figueras (Spain) is only 2½ hours away.

Rental: £150 per week low season, £200 per week high season.
