The 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry

The following articles are from the Cleveland Leader

August 16, 1862 - SEND IN BLANKETS - Blankets have not arrived in sufficient numbers to furnish soldiers, and an appeal is made to the citizens of Cleveland to furnish quilts and blankets for our brave volunteers until received from the Government, when they will be returned.  They can be left at the Headquarters of Capt. Vail, No. 94 Superior St.

August 19, 1862  THE 105TH REGIMENT ORDERED TO KENTUCKY -

The 105th Regiment, Col. Hall, now in Camp Cleveland, has received orders to march on Wednesday for Kentucky.  What outfit is not already here will be received at Columbus.  We understand that arms and clothing for the regiment are mostly here.

August 20, 1862      We are informed that out of four hundred men in the 105th regiment who were subjected to medical examination yesterday, sixty were rejected.  This is a rather large per cent.

The 105th regiment is reported to march to Kentucky tomorrow.

The County fair is postponed indefinitely...owing to the disturbed condition of our country, and other causes.

CLOSING THE STORES - Nearly all the business firms on Superior Street have agreed to close their stores at 4 p.m. each day, between this time and September 4, in accordance with the recommendation of the Committee of Thirteen, to allow the proprietors and employers to engage in the work of promoting enlistments.  To-morrow a list will be published of those who concur in the recommendation, and of those who do not.  Stores were generally closed yesterday afternoon.

August 21, 1862  THE CAMP - The portion of the camp occupied by the 105th regiment, presented a busy scene yesterday, the several companies being mustered in and the men preparing to march.  A great many people from the country, relatives and friends of the members of the 105th, were at camp to bid adieu to the soldiers.  Guards were stationed to prevent soldiers leaving the camp.

THE 105th REGIMENT - The regiment will leave by special train on the C.C. & C.R.R. at 1 o'clock p.m. to-day.  They go to Cincinnati, and thence to Camp Dick Robinson, Kentucky.  The medical examination was made by Drs. Capener and N.B. Prentiss.  About twenty-five men were discarded as being unfit for service, from various causes.  Most of the companies having more men than are required, the quota of the regiment remains full.  The regiment was mustered in yesterday afternoon by Capt. Paxton, of the 15th regulars and received their uniforms and clothing.  They will take their camp equipage from here and receive arms, accoutrements, tents & c. at Cincinnati.  They will be armed w/the Springfield rifle.  It is the testimony of the examining surgeons that they never saw a finer body of men than represented by the 105th regiment.

MARRIED - August 19th by Rev. E.T.Brownn, Mr. A.M. Robbins, Adjutant 105th reg't. O.V.I. and Miss Olevia W. Newet, all of Warren, Ohio.
