Russia vs. Ukraine
Personally, I'd think she'd be from the Ukraine geographicly speaking, because it is said she is from Eastern Europe, and that she grew up in a small mining town- the Ukraine has coal deposits... Anyways, thats just an educated guess. :-) ~Lyndsey ------------------- I'm not gonna reveal Linka's real republic till I get a decent amount of votes, so vote :) {Diana} (F. Sickle) ------------------- >Come on, please? I'm not gonna reveal Linka's real republic > till I get a decent amount of votes, so vote :) How do you know what country she comes from. I didn't vote, but I'll tell of all of that I think she's Russian. 1. Da, Nyet....why would someone from say, Ukraine say russian words....they do speak in a diff. lang or dialect, right...?.... 2.Wheeler calls her Ruskie..and she's not really offended by it...*like him and the word, yankee,* she'd rip him shred from shred if she was from one of the countries under Russia's control. 3. I don't know how to word it,but check out my website... http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Fuji/7261/captainplanetpage.html 4. I think she carries the pride of a Russian....and etc..but I'm not sure... 5. She told Greg how the rivers in her country were ruined..*I think..* and Russia is the country *of all the ex-Soviet countries,* that has important or the most important rivers. 6. Linka's grandma gave him a russian doll...you know, where there's 11 smaller ones inside of it. I think like, Ukraine for example, would have their own toys..and stuff like that..they have their own athem. -Erinn ------------------- True, true...Yet, I also, have a few points to possible support my opinion. 1. About the language, the whole dialect thing most likely is correct; yet, as you well know, English itself has many dialects and terms like "Yes" and "No" ("Da" and "Nyet" respectively) have a way of constantly being used. If you go to Britian, they have a different accent and use of terms, but they still use 'yes' and 'no' the same way Americans do. Its just a comparison. Then again, I'll have to assume that they speak Russian in the Ukraine. Well, since Russia borders the Ukraine, wouldn't some Russian creep in? Its like living in Texas, you gotta speak a little Spanish. 2. As for Wheeler calling her a "Ruskie", either she could A) Think he's a stupid American and couldn't possibly understand, B) Not really care, or C) - This falling under my "Turner-is-an-idiot"catergory - That the producers of the show don't really give a crap about little cultural references. Speaking of which, I got a friend from Moldova (another ex-satellite of the former USSR) who is actually fiercely "not-liking-being-called-a-Russian" and he really doesn't care that I do, simply because I'm his evil little friend who likes to tease him about being a commie. Then he calls me a corrupt capitalist industrialist. Shortly later, normal socio-economic chaos ensues. Damn, I love 3rd period World Literature. 3. Hey, dude, check out my website - http://www.angelcities.com/members/nowheregood/plunder.htm 4. I *believe* that the Ukraine has the Danube flowing through it. Quite the important river in eastern Europe. At least, I'm pretty sure about that. 5. Need I even mention Chernobyl? Yours in both polluting and preserving, ~Lyndsey L. AIM: Plunderer01 ------------------- Ok, just to kind of confuse every one :) I'm gonna dispute your ideas, hope you don't mind too much... Erinn's first: I know because of a visual cue in a certain episode (another reason I wanna know how to video capture so I can put it in the files thingy and show you all, hint hint) 1.Lyndsey explained this fairly well, a language doesn't have to stay confined within boundaries of a country, it can spread 2.Ruskie was (maybe still is?) a term for someone from the soviet union, also called russia frequently, and linka probably realizes this. Hmmm, I'm not wording this right. Do you get what I'm trying to say? 3.She could also represent the Soviet Union, for that has been the main focus of friction since World War II. Look at her belt buckle for example. She still has the Soviet star she's always worn, though it is true that Russia and the US generally don't like eachother. Take my step-dad...Please. j/k, seriously, though, he works for the government and really doesn't like Russia much at all. 4.Anyone could have national pride, I guess 5.The Soviet Union itself had a lot of rivers and in fact was a very polluting country; any of the Eastern European countries have a bunch of rivers in them 6.Like languages, toys do not have to just be bound by borders Time for Lyndsey's: Post 450: Linka is from an iron mining town Post 456: 1.Although languages can spread, I think there is a Ukranian language separate from Russian. 2.See above 3.What did the wall do to deserve that? I feel sorry for it ;.; 4.The Danube starts around Germany and doesn't go through Ukraine, but rather a bunch of other E. European countries 5.I know Chernobyl is in Ukraine, but I don't get it, what does that have to do with the argument? I'm confused (but then, I always am) :) PS- You're website is a little disturbing :/ One final note, how do you video capture? Come on, please? Pretty please with cherries on top? :) Do svidaniya Diana ------------------- Poll stuff: Linka is definitely from Russia. Wheeler calls her Ruskie, and she has given a few other details. {Heidi} ------------------- Hi! Ok, while it's really interesting watching you battle it out about where Linka is in actually from, no one has added more votes, so I'm just gonna tell you. On second thought, do you want me to tell you? Would you believe me or want proof? Cause I can give it, provided someone tells me how to get a pic from the TV to the computer.... {Diana} (F. Sickle) ------------------- wait...what country do you think Linka is from, Diana? -Erinn ------------------- ...And Diana, PLEEEEEEEEASE tell us where Linka is from!! End the battle and tell us that she is from the Ukraine!! ;) ... {Megan} (Fibble) ------------------- And you mean *AHEM....*RUSSIA REGARDING LINKA! {Erinn} ------------------- (cough, cough) Did I hear someone say Russia? Or did you say UKRAINE??? I mean, Russian is widely spoken in the Ukraine, and there are coal mines and a major river. But I guess it doesn't matter THAT much anyways. But it sure is fun to battle about!! Can't wait for the answer! (Diana, that's your cue.) Fibbi ------------------- Ok, here it is, the moment you've all been waiting for. But first, lemme tell you how I know. Okay, first off, either Russia or Ukraine is the correct answer. Now say one is country A and the other is country B (doesn't matter which, take your pick). Now, suppose you've got someone from either A or B, like Linka. Why would someone from A have a flag from B in her room? Perhaps that would show that they are in actuality from B, da? Whatever, my logic isn't making much sense, is it. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that in The Guinea Pigs, Gi and Linka are in a room with a flag in it while they are putting on make-up. Now, there is no reason whatsoever for Gi to have such a flag in her room, so we can safely assume that it's Linka's. Ok, skip all the logic stuff :) Linka is from * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *Keep scrolling :) * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *This is fun * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *If you want proof, then as soon as I can get a screen grab I'll show you * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *Russia :) sorry Fibb, I know you really thought she was from Ukraine, but as it was mentioned in posts, Ukraine wouldn't like Russia all that much, and why would you have a flag of an neighboring country you didn't like instead of your own? Whatever. Oh yeah, it's not coal, it's iron :). Well, now the battle's finally over, and if ya'll wanna see the flag, The Guinea Pigs is in season three (or maybe I'll figure out how to screen grab, cause the comp can hook up to the TV), so it'll be sometime near the end of summer, I think. Well have a nice day everyone! Diana, now hated by Fibble and Lyndsey for revealing the truth and destroying their illusion j/k :) You don't really hate me, do you? ------------------- Linka is from the Ukraine! She HAS TO BE! Here's a fake reason that I made up: Ever since she was a little girl, Gi wished that she could live in russia instead of normal Asia. So she posted a Russian flag in her room and ta da! That's it!!! Does, er, anyone believe my reasoning here? Or is it time to submit to the fact that I was wrong? P.S. I am still awaiting Gi's big plan in A Sunset Romance. Antartica sounds nice but Key West sounds better. Prettier Sunsets. ;) Fibbi ------------------- Hey there, just another proof for ya Fibble, if anyone watched Nothing's Sacred today at six, then surely you noticed that when the planeteers were in NYC, they went by a relic type store. Linka said how she would like one of the masks, and replied (when Kwame or Ma-ti or whoever objected) that it wasn't like they stole a piece of the Vatican. The store lady person then said that they had no Vatican pieces at the time, but they had some beautiful ikons from the St. Petersburg cathedral in RUSSIA, at which Linka got really offended and walked away saying "Bozhe moy! Is nothing sacred?!" Then the show continues, you know. So, to all you ukraine sympathizers out there, that's more proof she's from RUSSIA. :) Give it up, unless ya wanna debate it some more, which does sound like fun. Besides, why would Gi wanna be Russian? She's most likely from China (wanna start another war on origins?) cause she could read the kanji (or whatever it is) in The Big Clam Up in Chinatown in San Fran. So they're like both commies and China's obviously doing better off (I think). So skipping any remaining logic, she wouldn't wanna be Russian. Oh heck, I'll stop talking now and get back to my history project on the Vietnam War. Do svidaniya! Diana - still hated by Fibble and Lyndsey :) ------------------- Diana, I was just joking. I was wrong, and isn't a big deal anyways but it sure was fun to argue about. Fibbi ------------------- ^_^. Yeah, I just like to argue about pointless stuff. I don't hate ya, its fun . ~Lyndsey ------------------- I was looking at the polls and the old one asked where Linka was from and I know someone said they had the answer but I wasnt sure and so I just thought I'd say taht I jsut saw an ep and its Russia! hehee:) the person just asked her how birdwatching was in Russia so..yea. just in case you didnt know! hehee:) ~*~Ro and Cathey~*~
Okay, this one's a debate on which country Linka is from after the fall of the Soviet Union... It all started with a poll I put up on the CPC asking which republic of the USSR the members thought she was from...
