Gi
This 15-year-old is a mixture of refined culture and high-tech/high style. She's a rock and roll fan as well as a natural linguist. Bright, sophisticated, a citizen of the world (she started college at age 14), Gi is the most flexible of the Planeteers.

Gi is an athelete--her favorite sport is surfing--and a student of marine biology. She has a strong scientific understanding of the various ocean ecosystems. She is at home with the sea and its creatures, and has a particular fondness for dolphins, with whom she can communicate.

Gi is the most stylish and trendy of the Planeteers. She is a team player, though she can be a bit impetuous at times.
Her element is Water. Gi can control any water source, be it a well, faucet, river, or sea. She can even summon the ocean to do her bidding, calling up waves or water spounts, and, with extreme concentration, draw water out of the very air itself.

When Gi was young, her parents worked at a seaside laboratory financed by a grant. There Gi enjoyed swimming and playing with her dolphin friend, Tiza. But one day the grant was revoked, and her family was forced to leave, as the coast had been bought up to build a smelting plant. Having had to leave Tiza behind, Gi saved all her allowance for a whole year to go back to see her, but when she returned she discovered that everything was highly polluted, and a dying Tiza lay beached on the shore.

Years later, when she got her ring from Gaia, she was throwing a hula hoop for a dolphin on a rocky coast. The dolphin resurfaced holding a ring in its mouth, which it promptly threw to Gi. She was wearing a green and black body suit at this time. She is very dedicated to the earth, often valuing it and animals the same or more than humans, especially if those humans are the ones causing the damage.
Gi hails from somewhere in Southeast Asia, though the exact location is never given; in the first episode, the map zooms in on either Burma or Thailand. During her school years she met a boy who currently lives in Thailand; however, she can read Chinese, which proved useful when the Planeteers had to solve a mystery in San Francisco.
