Real Hope
The title track from the 2000 Colin Buchanan album 'Real Hope'

C    G     F     C         G

         C               G
It was a real birth in a real stable
     F          G      C       G
In a real dusty Judean town
      C                      G
And a real mother nursed her precious baby
      F
And a bunch of wide-eyed
G                  C
shepherds gathered round
    Am               F
And real angels sang “Glory”
    Am                      G
For real hope was born that day
Luke 2:1-20

  C
I bet all I have on Jesus
       G
I will throw myself on Him
        F
For the one who died
                 C         G
A real death for real sin
      C
I bet all I have on Jesus
           G
And throughout eternity
       Am            F
I will marvel at the real hope
        C       G       C
That my saviour won for me

         C
It was a real life
       G
He had real friends
          F           G                 C   G
He walked shoulder to shoulder with the lost
        C
He wept real tears
        G
For the fallen ones
       F              G              C
And he anguished over sin’s dreadful cost
         Am                  F
And on a real cross he cried “Forgive them!”
       Am                G
As his real life drained away

       C
I have real fears
     G
I do real sin
      F
And I hurt the ones
G             C     G
I cherish and adore
        C
But the real mercy
       G
Of the true God
         F             G             C
sees the filthy fallen purchased and restored
      Am              F
And I cry “My God - O fill me
       Am               G
with a heart completely yours!”

Psalm 84:2

Colin's Album Note
"I wrote this song in response to someone who had diluted the obvious intent of the Bible so much that the whole thing - and God Himself - had become a take-or-leave grab bag of fuzzy ideas. And I just don't see it in the Bible. I serve a real Jesus, who lived a real life and died a real death and won real forgiveness and a real hope for me. Any other conclusion involves playing tricks with the clear message of the Bible. Exposure to Studdart Kennedy's poem 'faith' completed the idea - if the real Christ is your real Hope, well bet all you have and all you are on Him. Nothing else and no one else is worth it."
The poem is repoduced in full on Colin's website www.colinbuchanan.com.au
