This article is a little departure from the usual advertising or marketing piece. It's one we need to remember for the season.

If I have heard it once, I have heard it a thousand times. "When God closes one door, He opens another."

I have always just considered that a platitude, you know, one of those things that people say when they don't know what to say.

Well, I have been doing a lot of thinking about that and have come to the conclusion that it is true. I have had a lot of doors slammed in my face in my lifetime, as have you, but when I look back on those doors I thank God that some of them were closed to me. I have learned to trust God to know what is best for me.

Think about it for a minute. Where would you be and what would you be doing if certain doors were not closed for you? You may not have met that wonderful wife or husband or might not have gotten that good job. Having doors slammed in your face may be God's way of putting you in the right place at the tight time. There are so many possibilities. Trust in God's wisdom for your life. Maybe you have not yet recieved that wonderful blessing but I assure you it is out there and will be given to you at the right time.

If it were not for certain doors being slammed on me I would not be sitting here writing this today. And there is nothing I would rather be doing than sending a message of hope and sunshine to all of my friends out there in this big wide world.

I am disabled to the point that I cannot work for a living and I live well below the established poverty level in the United States but I am thankful that God has placed me here in this country where life is so much easier for people like me. I cannot imagine what my life would be like if I lived in a third world country. I admit my weakness and count my blessings.

God has made it possible for me to have a computer and access to the internet. There is no way, on my income that I could have accomplishedthis on my own. I trust Him every day to continue to make it possible for me to have this luxury.

There are many activities I would love to do but can't, I can't even run, but God has filled my life with so many things that I am able to do that it makes up for it. I can write poetry, I can type, I can access the web where I am in contact with so many wonderful people that I would not otherwise be able to meet. I am so grateful for all the blessings that God has sent me that there are no words to express it.

There have been periods in my life when I was so depressed that I felt there was nothing to live for. I went to counselors and therapists for years trying to find healing for some terrible traumas that I suffered as a child. Then I decided to trust God to bring me the healing I so desperately needed. My healing is coming slowly in doses that are easy to swallow. I have learned that He has been by my side all my life holding me up when I felt I was falling. By His grace and love I have survived.

Though I have had many tradegies in my life, I am finding that the blessings far outweigh the bad. Now, on those bad days, when I can't seem to find anything to be thankful for I go through this list. I am sure that you can make a list of your own if you think about it.

I thank you, Lord, for:
1. being born in the United States of America where I am free to be me.
2. being poor enough to need You and rich enough to be free from hunger and homelessness.
3. having all of my five senses
4. I can walk
5. I can talk
6. I have an education which allows me to be able to read and the freedom to own a Bible to read.
7. I am Loved
8. I have friends
9. I have family
10.I know God and His Son
These are not my only blessings, just the top ten.

My mother always said, when we complained, "I cried because I had no shoes and then I met a man who had no feet."

Thank you, Mother, for teaching me this, that no matter how little we think we have to be grateful for there is always someone with less.

My brother said as he lay dying of stomach cancer, "If I live, I win. I get to be with my family a little longer. If I die, I win. I get to go and be with my Lord sooner."

What faith and courage he had. He counted his blessings even on his deathbed. Having him for a brother was a blessing to me.

Make your own list of ten blessings that God has given you and think of them each day and say a little prayer of gratitude. You will find that your outlook improves each day.

It is only when we have lost them, That we fully appreciate our blessings.
