What happened to yesterday?

You were my mental buffet,

When everything still shone bright,

I could envision you with delight,

And nightmares were kept at bay.

What happened to yesterday?

Now my world is not the same,

It seems bleak and very dark,

He has found a new spark,

Where once I fanned his flame.

What happened to yesterday?

I told him to find someone new,

To find someone to grow old with,

Not one that shall soon be a myth,

He listened and followed through.

What happened to yesterday?

I hope he is happy and full of mirth,

I still worry about how he is fending,

His silence has my heart rending,

With my own sense of worth.

What happened to yesterday?

Life without friends can be lonely,

When they leave, it can cut deep,

One can only sit and try not to weep,

When you are left as the one and only.

What happened to yesterday?

Keep your friends near and dear,

Don't let them slide far and away,

Never let your life be full of dismay,

For the pain of loss can be severe.
