I watched, mesmerized, as power was transferred in the United Kingdom last Wednesday as Tony Blair stepped down as Prime Minister and Gordon Brown stepped up to the Post.  No pomp, no pageantry at the House of Commons whose members in their business suits put conscious effort at looking like the commoners they are supposed to be.  No prepared speech, no valedictory, but a tribute in a standing ovation from his colleagues at the end of the session.  That was the manner the end of an era was marked.  And celebrated.  It was like a delicate dance.  Quite exemplary even for a nation that has brilliantly blended tradition and change.  This is democratic political theater at its best… Journalist Alex Magno……. Excerpt: Newsweek Interview of Super Bowl Champion INDIANAPOLIS COLTS Coach Tony Dungy-Q?  Now that you’ve won the Super Bowl, how do you put it in perspective?-A.  For me, it’s something I tell my players all the time.  My favorite verse in the Bible is Matthew16:26 “What would it profit a man to gain the whole world but forfeit his soul?”.  I never wanted our players to think the Super Bowl was the ultimate.  I always talk about “Yes, we’re going to win, but what are we going to do as we’re winning?  What are we going to do after we win?”  Winning the Super Bowl is not the destination.  It’s not an end point.  It’s what you do from here…

August 12, 2007
So many friends and fans urged Tony on, the first African-American coach to win the big game, that he decided to write the book QUIET STRENGTH.  Dungy’s tale is one in which God, not Peyton Manning, is the No.1 quarterback.  And the biggest challenges don’t come from the New England Patriots but from life-none more so, in Dungy’s case, than enduring the tragic suicide of his 18 year old son, Jamie, in 2005…-Mark Starr-Newsweek…….2 Cor 8:2 “Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.”

Q?- What do you believe is essential to convey to your team? A.- That being a great player is not the most important thing.  What we do is important and it’s going to feed your family, but it’s not going to define who you are. I know for a fact that to the guys I played with in the ‘70s who  have Super Bowl rings, the most Important thing is not that we won those games at the end of the year, but what’s going on in their lives and what they are doing now with their families.  That’s going to be way more long-lasting than whether we win that last game…..1 Cor 12:11 “All these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.’
