The Trans Atlantic Business Dialog was held in Chicago in the fall of 2002. Because large-scale demonstrations were expected to disrupt city operations and possibly result in violence, police officers received training on crowd control techniques.

Training sessions for the TABD conference were conducted at O'Hare Airport on Monday, 28 October and Wednesday, 30 October 2002. These photos were taken at the Wednesday session, in which three scenarios were played out.

In the first scenario, protesters locked arms and blocked the street, but were peaceful. In each subsequent scenario, protesters took a more active role by taunting officers and throwing objects.

Officers demonstrated how well they could work in squads and platoons, sometimes shoulder to shoulder with officers they had never met before.

The Mounted Patrol Unit demonstrated their ability to move the crowd effectively.

New vehicles deployed during the conference included the video surveillance van provided and staffed by the office of Information and Strategic Services.

Officers lined the curbs on Washington to keep the marchers under close surveillance and ultimately under control.
