On 18 May 2001 Mercedes Benz USA announced a donation of fifty Mercedes Benz bicycles to the Chicago Police.  Afterward the team rode together along the lakefront back to their office at Meigs Field.
The new M-3 is dedicated in memory of Sgt. Alane Stoffregen. Balloons are released over the heads of the Mounted Patrol at the Gold Star family day. A Mounted Patrol officer assists in traffic traffic on Dearborn. Members of the Traffic Section display the new Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Members of the Loop Traffic Unit on the new Kawasaki PAPVs.
