Review for: Alloy Exhaust Back Box for Peugeot 306

This review expresses my opinion for the: backbox I ordered from: bestnikesintown.

I gave: Neutral feedback for this item and service.

07/08/2006 UPDATE!!:  Upon giving the car to a Peugeot garage, the specialist recommended fitting a new exhaust!  The back box provided by bestnikesintown was described to be incompatible for my car.  It was clearly not designed specifically and the "fitting kit" was poorly designed.

  Reasons:-

Delivery:  Excellent.  Four day dispatch from ordering.

Upon receiving the item, I quickly noticed that there were several jagged edges left over from construction.  Inside the tube where the "baffles" were (basically slits in the wall of the pipe) there were several jagged parts of aluminium which I removed asap.  The alloy extension tubing was carelessly cut also leaving (a very painful and now slightly bloody) jagged edge.

I also took note of the alloy bars which were welded to the box.  They were straight!  Later on I would see just how difficult it would be to bend them into position to get them to correctly connect up with the rubber hangers on the back of the car.  Clearly the hardest job was left to me.  I must have spent 2 hours alone adjusting the rods to make them line up and fit correctly to my 306 HDi (2001).  I specified the exact make and model yet I received straight rods...?

The next problem was the alloy extension tube wasn't designed to fit my exhaust system.  The brackets supplied were barely sufficient to provide support for holding the tube to the back of the exhaust system.

I was also concerned a little at the price of the "fitting kit".  This came to £15 for two universal exhaust brackets and alloy tube.  The brackets are available in stores for a few pounds and the alloy tube is a cut off - but can all that justify the £15?  I have read other feedbacks from bestnikesintown and he explains that the cost includes extra postage and packing.  However, aluminium is very light and courier services have large denominations between weights of packages (packing is a foot of tape wrapped around the exhaust).  Therefore I can only assume bestnikesintown is making a very healthy profit from this.

The quality of the actual items received however were acceptable.  I have used companies like Janspeed and Maniflow to provide exhausts for my previous cars; the exhaust provided is by no means as good quality as those, but the price reflects that issue.

The exhaust is good looking, small, and satisfyingly light.  The baffles actually work and don't create too much extra noise.  I am very happy with the product, but I am not happy with the "fitting kit" or the way the rods were left straight.

I would definitely recommend this product to someone as long as they have good tools and access to proper alloy/steel tubing resulting in a professional job.

I hope whoever reads this can see my fair justification for why I gave neutral feedback.
