Russian Organized Crime




The Russian Mafiya began with the communist era of control.  There is no universally accepted definition of Organized Crime in Russia.  There are three different groups of crime:
  • Gruppirovki - gangs of extortionist, thieves, swindlers, and drug traffickers
  • Prestupnaia Ortanizatsiia - mid level crime, relatively large formations with connect to regional levels
  • Soobshchestvo - highest level extending to multiple regions of the country, and some international ties.
